B’nai Jacob Remembers
Abe Langer
Abe, most recently 1st vice-president of B’nai Jacob, passed away recently. He was a principal of Langer Transport, headquartered in Jersey City, and was very supportive of many charities. His generosity to Bnai Jacob was long-standing and he very quietly gave to any needed project. His daughter Barrie was a member of our children’s choir and is pictured in the choir photo hanging in the Rubin Lobby. Abe could always be relied upon to contact the proper City authority when we needed help of any kind. It was very important to him to keep the neighborhood in good shape and to make sure we had proper police protection on all Jewish holidays. He supported every synagogue activity, even if he could not attend the event. He also made sure we always had schnapps for shabbat attendees to lift everyone’s spirits; he never missed a meeting or a program of any kind. Abe also was generous to people who needed help-which he gave without any expectation of gratitude. That was typical of his personality. Of course many of us knew about his frequent mailings of articles which had his red underlines, his date stamp and his attached memo saying”from the desk of Abraham Langer.” I am sure the United States Post Office will notice a severe dip in the purchase of postage in our area! He and Gloria traveled alot, went to the opera, theater and concerts often. He liked and often enjoyed good food. He also still owned one of his quite old cars, kept it in very good condition and drove it around town often and yes it has “historic” license plates. We will miss his ready smile and generous heart.
Emil Kropack
Emil was a long-time member of B’nai Jacob who was seen at many of our social activities, such as the 50th Anniversary Dinner, and other festive functions, including Purim, etc. We will miss his active participation.
